Dolce And Gabbana Intenso Review

Brand History

Dolce & Gabbana is a luxury fashion brand founded in 1985 by Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The brand quickly gained popularity with the public and celebrities, becoming known for its bold and provocative designs.

In the early 1990s, Dolce & Gabbana began to expand its product line beyond clothing and accessories and launched its first fragrance for women, called “Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme,” in 1992. The fragrance was a hit and was followed by a series of successful fragrances for both men and women.

Over the years, Dolce & Gabbana has released a wide range of fragrances, including the popular fragrance “Light Blue” perfume and “The One” perfume and fragrances for both men and women. In addition to its signature fragrances, the brand has also collaborated with famous perfumers to create limited-edition scents and a higher-end range of fragrances.

After releasing some smash hits in the perfume and fragrance industry, Dolce & Gabbana’s fragrance line has become an important part of the brand’s identity and has helped solidify its position as a leading luxury fashion brand.

Perfume History

Dolce & Gabbana Intenso was launched in 2014 and the scent was created by master perfumer Olivier Polge. The scent was designed to be a fresh, modern interpretation of classic masculine fragrances, with a focus on bold, intense notes.

Intenso features a rich blend of aromatic notes, including basil, lavender, and geranium, as well as woody notes like tobacco, hay, and cypress. The fragrance also includes a touch of creamy, rich, sweet notes like honey and milk, adding warmth and depth to the scent.

Perfume Story

According to Dolce & Gabbana, Intenso eau de parfum was inspired by the idea of a modern gentleman who is both confident and sophisticated. The brand’s creative directors, Domenico Dolce, and Stefano Gabbana described the scent of the fragrance as “bold, aromatic, rich and woody,” with the scent with a strong personality that reflects the brand’s aesthetic.

Whilst that certainly isn’t the most captivating story behind a perfume, It’s straight to the point quite like Dolce and Gabbana itself.

Perfume Bottle & Presentation

The presentation and bottle design of Dolce & Gabbana Intenso reflect the brand’s sophisticated and bold aesthetic, with the fragrance in a sleek black bottle adorned with a silver cap and the brand’s logo. eau de parfum is marketed as a modern interpretation of classic masculine fragrances, designed for the confident and sophisticated modern gentleman.

Our Thoughts

In a total departure from the usual airy and heavily citrus-based fragrances that Dolce & Gabbana releases, Intenso eau de parfum takes things in an unusual direction.

It smells great it’s slightly sweet and gourmand, with the tobacco and amber adding a really serious tobacco smell and nice warmth. This took me by surprise. Intenso isn’t completely dark though and there are some nice florals that really help in the composition.

Personally, I feel and smell like this fragrance is a nice middle ground between the summer feel of D&G pour homme and the nice warmth of Dolce & Gabbana The One. It’s very likable but has some unique twists to help keep things interesting.

How many sprays are required?

Dolce and Gabbana intenso is a nice middle ground when it comes to performance. It’s not too overbearing but still gets noticed, so you can go for the average 4-6 sprays when using this every day.

Winter will really help bring out some of the more interesting notes but will require 1-2 more sprays, so about 5-6 in total. Summer will require less, thanks to the heat helping to add some performance. I wouldn’t venture past 4 sprays in the summer.

Notes

Let’s take a look at the notes in Dolce and Gabbana Intenso:

Top Notes

Lavender

Water Notes

Basil

Marigold

Geranium

Right at the start of Intenso Eau De Parfum, you get a nice, clean lavender. This lavender is supported by some very faint watery and aquatic facets, which just help to add an interesting twist to things.

You also have some fresh, faint florals – Geranium and Marigold – which aren’t girly in any way, cleaner. Finally, the fresh basil adds a touch of spice.

Heart Notes

Tobacco

Hay

Clary Sage

Moepel accord

Bran

The opening dissipates within a few minutes, leaving the mid to join the party. The main facet I get is a really nice, damp hay and tobacco smell that just works perfectly in Intenso eau de parfum. This is supported by a nice hay accord which doesn’t actually smell of hay, as strange as it sounds. It’s more earthy.

The clary sage and moepel accord again add some clean florals into the mix, helping to lift up the tobacco and hay and keep them from turning dirty. I don’t get the bran note, but I think it’s there to add some texture to the scent.

Base Notes

Sandalwood

Cypress

Musk

Amber

Labdanum

After a few hours, the base starts to appear. This is a wonderful base, with a nice, sweet amber sitting on a delicate musk. Nice sandalwood is also in the mix, helping to drive things masculine.

Finally, Intenso eau de parfum also has very light labdanum and cypress. This is again to keep things clean and stop the amber & woods from going too muddy.

Performance

Now let’s get into the different aspects of performance for Intenso Eau De Parfum. As with all fragrances, this is heavily dependent upon the weather, how much you spray, and your skin chemistry.

Sillage

The sillage of Dolce and Gabbana Intenso is just above average. You’ll have a small scent trail following you wherever you go. The trail is mainly the woods and tobacco with a bit of musk thrown in and is quite seductive.

Longevity

Longevity is another surprising element for Dolce & Gabbana Intenso Eau De Parfum. It actually lasts a decent time. I get about 8 hours, with the last two of them being a nice and warm skin scent. This longevity will be increased further when you wear this in the cold.

Projection

The projection of Dolce & Gabbana Intenso isn’t incredible, but it’s more than enough for everyday needs. I get around a foot of projection when Intenso eau de parfum is at its peak, and that projection smells great. The heat will help this project further.

Target Market

Dolce and Gabbana intenso is a masculine fragrance. There aren’t any overly sweet facets so it doesn’t really suit a female and I feel like it would be quite hard for a female to pull this off. Age-wise, I think that any males between the ages of 21-50 can pull this off, as it’s not overly mature and still has a few elements that younger people can pull off.

When to Wear

Dolce and Gabbana Intenso is perfect for a casual day out when you want to wear something that is slightly attention-grabbing but easy to wear. The interesting tobacco note smells incredible in colder weather, whilst the bright opening can hold its weight in slighter warmer weather. Together they help cover most bases for an everyday scent.

You could easily pull this off at a more relaxed coffee. I think it lacks the real attention-grabbing aspect to be worn for special events though.

Individuality

Whilst Dolce and Gabbana Intenso shares many aspects with other men’s fragrances, it has some small but unique twists along the way. The touches of tobacco and hay make this stand out just a bit from your usual men’s aftershaves, so it is fairly unique.

You aren’t likely to bump into any other guys wearing this either, as many people tend to go for one of the mainline Dolce&Gabbana fragrances.

Value For Money

Dolce and Gabbana Intenso is pretty good value for money. It’s the price of other mainstream designer scents, which makes it easily accessible to anyone. You can find it easily at discounters and can save a decent amount of money if you shop around enough.

L’Homme Parfum Intense gives the same vibe as Intenso, just with different notes. L’Homme Parfum Intense starts off way spicier, opening with citruses and pepper. It then goes with clean florals before going to a dirty, salty, and musky base.
